MannaBay’s Makeover

As if it wasn’t beautiful enough, MannaBay fine boutique hotel at the foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town has recently undergone a million rand makeover.

We started our week with breakfast on its newly zhushed patio overlooking the city to test out the new hot breakfast menu and browse the rooms that make this property so unique.

New on the menu is the breakfast stack with toasted rye bread, bacon, mushroom, rocket and ricotta infused with a basil pesto oil, and new ingredients have been added to the oven baked omelette as well (take a look at the menu in the gallery below).

The food presentation has received a facelift too, with dishes served in fancy new Le Creuset crockery and on wooden bread boards. We sat at a long table outside with a clear summer morning view over the city, easing into the Monday with a newspaper and cappuccino after cappuccino.

The Rooms

The uniquely themed rooms pop with new furniture and decorative touches, from beds to sofas, lights and mirrors to the art that adorns the walls throughout.

• There’s a room for every mood – the Explorer room for the colonial adventurer in you, Bartholomeu Dias with a modern touch and a balcony with cocoon-like wicker swing chairs from which to enjoy the view.

• The Black and White room sports a new King size four-poster bed, two tall giraffes that greet you as you enter, beautiful framed black and white  African-inspired photos and framed zebra print on the wall, as well as the wicker swing chairs on the balcony overlooking the city.

• Orchids are big at MannaBay; the dainty flowers pose throughout the hotel and culminate in their own room – the Orchid room. In frames on the wall, the wallpaper, in the colours used in the furnishings. Look up at Table Mountain through the white Cape Cod style shutters.

• The Persian room is more subtle, offering an old-school elegance with fine eponymous carpets, opulent chocolate and bronze wallpaper, a collection of framed images from a bygone era and an open king size bed (or alternatively twin beds).
  

• Still inspired by the regal splendour of the Palace of Versailles and the Ancien Régime in France, the Versailles suite comes alive with a velvet cerise pink couch and tall turquoise-seated thrones in the living room, a massive black velvet headboard above the king size bed that just demands you dive into it and disappear into a hedonistic coma like Marie Antoinette.

• Pom Pom is unique in that it has its own private courtyard garden and separate entrance. Pom Pom flowers adorn the wallpaper and framed images, with light cheerful colours in the furnishings like petals scattered around the room.

Not only will your stay include a sumptuous breakfast, but the rates also include an indulgent high-tea and a complimentary airport transfer. All rooms have state-of-the-art flat screen TVs with a variety of satellite channels – you might also want to take advantage of our extensive DVD collection, or iPod docking stations. All the rooms are fully air-conditioned and have underfloor heating if it gets a little chilly. In the opulent bathrooms, you’ll find indulgent Moya products which use uniquely South African ingredients.

 The MannaHouse

In addition to the rooms at MannaBay, this fine boutique hotel has extended to include a separate exclusive use, self-catering Villa called The MannaHouse. It is off-site in nearby Tamboerskloof on Woodside Road and will be available from 1 March 2013. Photos coming soon! There is a minimum 2 night stay.

The MannaHouse sleeps 4 in two en-suite bedrooms; one with a King bed the other with a King/Twin. The master bedroom has a private patio with breathtaking views of Table Mountain. The Dining Room seats 8; there’s a fully equipped kitchen, sitting room, study, swimming pool, outdoor shower, fully air-conditioned bedrooms, built in Bose sound system, DSTV, flat screen TVs in the bedrooms, Wifi, laptop, secure parking for one car and a fully remote controlled security system. Additional services can be arranged on request such as car hire, chauffer, butler, private chef. Cape Town’s many great restaurants, shops, cafes and bars are within easy walking distance.
