Christiane Schwarz and Andreas Wycisk travelled to Botswana and Nambia with Rhino Africa’s German Division in October last year, one of the lodges they visited was Xakanaxa Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. They entered their gorgeous image of a leopard in the grass into a photographic competition, along with 200 other hopefuls at the camp, and we can easily see why they won!

The competition was judged by naturalist and wildlife photographer, Lex Hes, who has been involved in the world of wildlife since the mid-70s when he began work at Londolozi Game Reserve. He has authored many books and is now part-owner of EcoTraining – Africa’s top safari-guide training company. Lex made the following comments on the winning image:

“This portrait of a leopard in the grass has wonderful impact. The photographer has used the rule of thirds to position the leopard’s face on the right hand side of the picture looking into the space created by the grass. Unlike a typical ‘leopard in a tree’ shot, this shows more typical leopard behaviour: hiding. The sharpness of the image helps as well.”

Christiane and Andreas have won a return trip to Xakanaxa Camp for a fully inclusive three night stay where they can enjoy the magic of the Delta once again…and hopefully capture a few more incredible photographs!
