did you know – the collective noun for rhinos is a “crash

Today we visited the Frank Joubert Art School for an extra special Rhino Exhibition put together by many of the kids who attend the school, many of whom are special needs. Director Bev Bradnick invited us, as rhino supporters, to view the work.

ex·hi·bi·tion/ˌeksəˈbiSHən/

noun: A public display of works of art or other items of interest, held in an art gallery or museum or at a trade fair.
A display or demonstration of a particular skill.

We Rhino Africans hopped in a Rhino Tripping Vito and headed off. We drove along the beautiful De Waal drive from our offices, with views of the harbour and Table Mountain. Destination: the leafy suburb of Newlands. The Frank Joubert Art School has been running since 1943 and teaches art to learners and educators of differing abilities.

We were instantly impressed with the work as we entered the big doors to the school. The students were given the task to create art around the subject of rhino awareness. Many of the kids who created the art works were deaf or dumb, had other disabilities such as Asperger’s syndrome, and most had never seen a rhino before. Yet, you’d think they had.

They came up with various sculptures, drawings, paintings, rhinos resembling ninjas, ballet dancers and even tattooed minxes in leopard print with piercings. Sure, some sculptures looked more like elephants and some drawings more like baboons, but in general the work was really creative, with great slogans we’re planning on borrowing…

Just take a look!
