Every year for the past 36 years Kirstenbosch Gardens has exhibited at the annual Chelsea Flower Show in London. This year for the first time Kirstenbosch nearly didn’t make it due to a lack of sponsorship. Thankfully the swift intervention of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape and the SA Gold Coin Exchange ensured Kirstenbosch is in attendance.

In the past Kirstenbosch has won several gold awards at the Chelsea Flower Show, also known as the Great Spring Show. In it’s 36th year exhibiting they are hoping to add to their collection of awards. This year the Kirstenbosch Gardens display showcases two of the eight World Heritage Sites in South Africa; The Cape Floral Kingdom and the Northern Cape’s Richtersveld. These are two of South Africa’s most iconic and diverse botanical landscapes. The Cape Floral Kingdom alone is home to some 20% of Africa’s flora and yet represents an area of less than 0.5% of the continent.

If you’re in London head down to the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show which runs from today the 24th of May to the 28th. But if you’re in Cape Town you can head to Kirstenbosch Gardens itself!

If you’re interested in visiting Kirstenbosch come and stay in Cape Town for a while and if you want to see the spectacular flowers ‘in the wild’ book a holiday along the Cape’s West Coast during flower season!
