An Evening at The Cape Royale

The Mother City is as always a temperamental matron as we were reminded on Friday evening when we visited the Cape Royale for an evening braai (barbecue!). Although the weather had been perfect all day, as the sun dipped down the wind began to blow. Good thing the lovely folk at the Cape Royale had provided us with superb gowns with our names embroidered on in gold, they kept us warm as we marvelled at the magnificent view from the hotels penthouse pool deck.

We hunkered down on some cosy couches, avoiding the wind as best we could and sipped on a succession of tasty cocktails including twisted daiquiri’s and white chocolate martinis! The lounge area provided us with a calm spot, the drinks an inner warmth and for something to look at the newly completed Green Point Stadium on one side and Lions Head on the other. A few cocktails down and fresh sushi made its way round, delectable!

Joining the Rhino Crash were the Cape Royale reservation staff who not only made us feel welcome and at home, but also joined in the fun. It was a great opportunity to put faces to names and reaffirm strong ties with one of our favourite Cape Town Hotels. Soon the meat was suitable seared and we tucked in to a variety served up with delicious salads.

Our appetites satiated we decided to move from the deck to one of the superb penthouse suites. Here the party really got started, somehow Whitney Houston and Queen joined the fray and soon much lip-syncing to television remote and beer bottle microphones was going on. I won’t tell you who does the best Whitney impression. Many of us headed down the road to one of the many night time venues close by and only returned in the dawn hours; fortunately the Cape Royale does an amazing in room breakfast. A super stay at the Cape Royale, what better way to get the year moving is there? None.
