Over the weekend we visited Lion Sands River Lodge, which is located on the Sabie River, to do a quick site inspection on our way to 1933.  The last time I saw this property was in August 2006, therefore I was very excited to see the refurbished rooms and new viewing deck overlooking the river.  As with the first visit we arrived to a warm welcome of smiling faces, refreshing drinks and a nice cool hand towel…the iconic symbol for “you have arrived” in the Kruger National Park.

First stop was the viewing deck, completed at the end of 2006, and what an great addition!!!  It’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon – lazing on one of the couches, sipping your favourite beverage and reading your novel while eagerly awaiting the arrival of one of Africa’s magnificent creatures…The Sabie River flows gently past and the slight breeze is refreshing in the African heat.

After soaking up the tranquillity we made our way over to one of the 18 river rooms…where an unexpected surprise was awaiting us, but I won’t get into that right now!!!  In all seriousness the refurbished rooms look great and offer everything one needs while staying at the lodge: comfortable bedroom with en-suite bathroom and out-door shower, plus a great little patio either overlooking the river or bush.

Thanks again to the Lion Sands team for hosting us and providing so many, unforgettable, heart stopping moments.
