This weekend Leigh Ann Combrink and I had the privilege of being invited to Lion Sands 1933.

1933 is Lion Sands new exclusive use family camp built on the banks of the Sabie River. The camp consists of 4 spacious suites, each with their own private en suite bathroom, outside showers and uninterrupted views of the River. The camp has a children’s bunk bedded dormitory which sleeps 8 children as well as a room for your Au Pair.

The lodge has been built by the More Family as a tribute to the pioneering spirit of their family, who have owned this reserve in the Sabi Sands Private Wildtuin since 1933.  The public areas are large and spacious with muted colours which invite the inside out and outside in. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the oversized chairs, and dining in the ‘family farmhouse kitchen’ that opens up onto a dining room with a large fireplace. Our breakfast was enjoyed pool side, under a large Jackleberry Tree.

Casual and inviting, Lion Sands 1933 is the kind of place that you feel that you can kick off your shoes, help yourself from the fridge and feel completely at home. The staff are on hand to entertain you as much or as little as you want, which gives you a great sense of privacy and exclusivity. We talk from personal experience when we say that Lion Sands 1933,  is the kind of place where you don’t have to mix with other guests, you can behave exactly how you like without fear of being ‘rusticated’. What goes on at Lion Sands 1933 stays at Lion Sands 1933 ( .. doesn’t it Mr. More ?! )

With your own private landrover, chef and ranger you really get the sense that Lion Sands 1933 is your own home away from home on safari. Lion Sands 1933 is managed by July Nyalungu the most consummate host and respected veteran of lodges such as Singita Lebombo and Londolozi.

Like Lion Sands Ivory Lodge and Lion Sands River Lodge you can expect fantastic food, great service and well trained knowledgeable rangers.

We believe that Lion Sands 1933 makes the perfect family safari destination, ideal for multi generational families traveling together, or for a group of close friends, or even as a corporate getaway.

Congratulations to Rob and Britt and all the team at Lion Sands for once again delivering a memorable experience and a product that we feel very confident to support.
