Singita Boulders Lodge in the Sabi Sands is known for it’s comprehensive Wine cellar with over 12,000 bottles of wine from all over the world and South Africa and visiting Lebombo Lodge in the Singita concession in the Kruger park this past weekend gave us a chance to test out the wine cellar and compare it with Boulders lodge! Needless to say the wine cellar itself is not half the size of Boulders Lodge, but the wines are equally good!

During our boma dinner in the evening at Lebombo lodge, on arrival we all received a glass of champagne to get us in the mood, until we were pleasantly surprised to have a wine sommelier conduct a special wine tasting based on a few wines that he recommended. So we indulged in a little wine tasting before dinner! It felt like we were back in Cape Town but had to remind ourselves that we were indeed in the bush, just drinking really good wine! It was great added feature when staying at the lodge to have this expertise and we all learnt about our own South African wines (as well as trying some new ones). The food was good for a boma dinner and I must say that I won’t forget the chocolate and strawberry pie, served with home-made vanilla ice-cream – it was to die for!

Breakfasts are served with impeccable style and I enjoyed the variations on offer for a cooked, or not-so-cooked breakfast – they had salmon, Eggs Benedict, full-house omelettes, pancakes and even smoothies to try from (and much more)! All was very delicious and making a choice was quite difficult considering it was our last morning in the bush and we wanted to leave with a bang! However we were eventually pushed for time and had our small (or not-so-small) breakfasts and rushed off back to Cape Town, with great memories of Lebombo.
