Complete with a great location just outside of Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo, La Plume Guest House this is the perfect place to take in the countryside. I was pleasantly surprised at the layout, which is very quaint, and being on a slight hillside, it is nicely put together with great views towards the Swartberg mountains. The rooms are warm and complete with antique furniture making it feel like you have stepped back in time! The original manor house, where you will have your dinners in the evenings, dates back to 1902 and the owners have done well to keep the historical look.

The buildings adjacent to the manor house, being the rooms, are all individually placed next to each other beside the old manor house so at least you feel like you have your own personal space and with the property being part of an Ostrich, alfalfa and vine farm, it feels like a getaway in the country, which I quite enjoyed. We took up the option to dine in house for the evening, having decided not to drive back to town for dinner, and the speciality for the evening was Ostrich, believe it or not! Besides the main course, the other two courses were left much to be desired, although the wine was very good.

Upon returning back to our bedrooms, we discovered much to our disappointment that there was no turn-down, but at least they thought to bring some hot water bottles for our beds, which was definitely needed due to the fact that the Klein Karoo is not the warmest part of the country, especially in Winter!
