I left South Africa last year in April and headed for London hoping to experience a new way of life.  It was really tough in the beginning, our Rand currency really didn’t hold out very well so the first few months we had to shop very carefully and we were only allowed a bottle of wine on a very special occasion!  I started working in London as an African tour consultant and slowly got the hang of sitting on a tube for two hours a day getting to and from work. Once the money flow began to look a bit more promising we began exploring London and what it had to offer. Firstly, we did all the touristy things and then decided to venture out and visit the Cotswold’s and Cornwall. It was great to see the country side and how different the way of life is in England but we couldn’t wait to come back home on holiday in January!

Counting down the months, finally the day arrive to fly back home to Cape Town!

I had serious butterflies and even before I had seen my family I was already sobbing thinking that I only had to collect my luggage, go through those doors and I would see them! We had booked a three week holiday and after just a few days I realized that once you have the African spirit in you it is just impossible to live anywhere else. So we set off to London to pack up our stuff and returned home.

I now live in Kommetjie on the beach and go for a morning stroll everyday. It’s great for the soul! My travel time to work is still in the region of 45 minutes one way but it is along the most beautiful pass in the world, Chapman’s Peak (see top picture!). The drive is just breathtaking and keeps me attentive for the day ahead! This is the most beautiful city in the world and I am honored to live here. I just love South Africa !
